Toronto Blue Jays pitching coach Pete Walker is facing driving under the influence charges after being arrested in Pinellas County, Florida on Friday, the Associated Press reports. Williams was released that same day on a $500 cash bond.
On Saturday, Walker apologized publicly:
"There was a traffic incident on Thursday night that I was involved in. I'm very apologetic to the Blue Jays organization, Blue Jays fans and my family.
"I'm working with my attorney to get resolution to this right now. My apologies to my three daughters, as well. Right now, we're working through that with my attorney for resolution and that is the only comment I'll have right now."
Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo also addressed Walker's arrest on Saturday:
According to an arrest affidavit obtained by Sportsnet, Walker is alleged to have been stopped Oldsmar, Fla. for going 82 mph in a 45 mph speed zone. More from Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet:
"The affidavit says Walker refused a breath alcohol content test but showed signs of impairment and failed field sobriety tests. A deputy reported that Walker 'admitted to drinking four beers at a bar/eating facility.' The affidavit states Walker was observed by the deputy to have 'a strong odor of alcoholic beverage' on his breath, poor balance, and glassy, bloodshot eyes."
Walker, 52, has served as Toronto's pitching coach since November of 2012 and has been a part of the organization in a coaching capacity since 2009.
