Indian Wells: Katie Boulter out as Dan Evans wins in BNP Paribas Open qualifying

Katie Boulter broke into the top 100 in October

British number two Katie Boulter failed to reach the Indian Wells main draw, losing in the final round of qualifying to Viktorija Golubic of Switzerland.

Boulter, 22, lost 6-4 6-3 in one hour 25 minutes to the world number 82.

The Briton, ranked 85, was seeded sixth in qualifying and aiming to reach the main draw in California for the first time.

Dan Evans is one more win away from the main draw after beating Belgium's Ruben Bemelmans in his opening qualifier.

The British number three, who moved back into the world's top 100 last week less than a year after returning from a drugs ban, won 6-4 6-4 against the 145th-ranked 31-year-old.

Evans, 28, will now face American Noah Rubin - ranked 153rd - at about 21:30 GMT on Wednesday, aiming to join three other Britons in the main draws at the combined ATP and WTA event.

Johanna Konta - ranked 45th in the world - will be the only British woman in the main draw.

The British number one will face France's world number 54 Pauline Parmentier in the first round at 19:00 GMT on Wednesday.

Kyle Edmund, Britain's leading male player, has a first-round bye as he is one of the 32 seeds, while Cameron Norrie plays talented Canadian teenager Felix Auger-Aliassime on either Thursday or Friday.
