Just as the 2021 MLB Little League Classic between the Los Angeles Angels and Cleveland got underway from Williamsport, Penn. on Sunday night (gametracker), MLB announced the two combatants for the 2022 game. We can't say it'll be the fifth annual Little League Classic, as the pandemic prevented the event from taking place in 2020, but the 2022 version will be the fifth iteration. The teams who were supposed to face off in 2020 will be the teams taking part in 2022.
The 2022 MLB Little League Classic will see the Boston Red Sox taking on the Baltimore Orioles. It will be an Orioles home game. As has become tradition, it'll be the Sunday night game on ESPN at 7 p.m. ET.
"We are thrilled to have been selected to participate in the Little League Classic next year," said Mike Elias, Orioles Executive Vice President and General Manager. "Our players and staff were very much looking forward to spending time with the next generation of players and fans at the 2020 event prior to its cancellation, so to have the opportunity to compete against the Red Sox next season at Historic Bowman Field while supporting the Commissioner's efforts to grow the game is a tremendous honor for our Club."
"We are excited to take part in one of MLB's latest traditions that directly connects Major League players with the game's next generation of potential stars," said Red Sox Chairman Tom Werner. "Playing the Orioles at Historic Bowman Field is an honor and we are looking forward to deepening the connection between today's youth and America's pastime."
The Little League Classic takes place in Bowman Field, in which Major League Baseball invested millions of dollars to renovate before the inaugural Little League Classic in 2017 between the Cardinals and Pirates.
