The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox will not begin their seasons on Thursday, April 7 as originally scheduled. Rather, the Yankees announced on Wednesday that their Opening Day contest had been rescheduled for Friday, April 8 because of a Thursday forecast that includes inclement weather. That game will begin at 1:05 p.m. ET and will take place at Yankee Stadium.
The Yankees and Red Sox game is the second Opening Day contest to be postponed because of weather-related concerns. The Seattle Mariners and Minnesota Twins have pushed back their first contest from Thursday to Friday as well. It seems entirely possible, if perhaps not even likely, that the same ends up proving to be the case for the scheduled contest between the New York Mets and the Washington Nationals. Thursday's forecast for D.C. seems unfavorable for baseball being played on Thursday, to be charitable.

The other half of the league will begin its season Friday, weather permitting. That group includes the Chicago White Sox, Detroit Tigers, Oakland Athletics, Philadelphia Phillies, Baltimore Orioles, Tampa Bay Rays, Los Angeles Dodgers, Colorado Rockies, Miami Marlins, San Francisco Giants, Texas Rangers, Toronto Blue Jays, and, thanks to Mother Nature of course, the Mariners, Twins, Yankees, and Red Sox.
On Friday at Yankee Stadium, Gerrit Cole for the Yankees is set to face Red Sox righty Nathan Eovaldi in a pitching rematch of the 2021 AL Wild Card Game, which Boston won 6-2.
