The return of Pittsburgh Penguins star Sidney Crosby may be short. On Wednesday, Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan announced that Crosby and his teammate Brian Dumoulin missed practice after testing positive for COVID-19.
Crosby is currently experiencing mild symptoms while Dumoulin is asymptomatic.
This comes after Crosby returned to the ice for Saturday's 4-2 loss against the New Jersey Devils. Crosby missed the first seven games of the regular season as he recovered from wrist surgery that took place before the season. In his return to the lineup, Crosby didn't register a point against the Devils. The Penguins captain logged 13:03 of ice time and won eight of his 15 faceoffs.
Crosby is coming off a season in which he registered 24 goals and 38 assists in 55 games. The Penguins star also finished fourth in the voting for the Hart Trophy, which is annually awarded to the league MVP.
The Penguins have gotten off to a less-than-stellar 3-3-2 start without Crosby in the lineup. Pittsburgh has lost its last three games against the Flames, Devils and Tampa Bay Lightning and have been outscored 13-3 during that stretch.
The Penguins face their Metropolitan Division rivals in the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday.
