Report: Becky Hammon to interview for Blazers, Magic head coaching jobs

Becky Hammon will look to break down another coaching barrier this off-season, as the San Antonio Spurs assistant coach will interview for the head coaching position with the Portland Trail Blazers, according to The Athletics’ Shams Charania.

Also interviewing for the top job with the Trail Blazers — who parted with ways with head coach Terry Stotts earlier this month — are South Carolina and national team coach Dawn Staley, Clippers assistant coach Chauncey Billups, Nets assistant coach Mike D’Antoni and Spurs vice president of basketball operations Brent Barry, per Charania.

Spurs assistant Becky Hammon — who this season became the first woman to serve as head coach in an NBA game — will soon interview for the Trail Blazers and Orlando Magic head coaching jobs, sources said. https://t.co/BSXe6jt45J https://t.co/q7HlrKr2Fd

According to Charania, Hammon is also set to interview for the head coaching job with the Magic, who recently parted ways with coach Steve Clifford.

Hammon joined the Spurs coaching staff in 2014, becoming the first full-time female assistant coach in NBA history, and the first among the major North American professional sports.

She became the first female head coach of a Summer League team in 2015 when she coached the Spurs’ squad there, and in December 2020 became the first woman to serve as head coach in the NBA after taking over for an ejected Gregg Popovich in a game against the Clippers.
