Scotland v Georgia: Euro 2024 qualifier restarts after 90-minute delay

The opening six minutes were played in near farcical conditions

Scotland's Euro 2024 qualifier with Georgia has resumed after being suspended for more than 90 minutes amid torrential rain at Hampden Park.

The game was halted by referee Istvan Vad immediately after Callum McGregor slammed the Scots into a sixth-minute lead in near farcical conditions in Glasgow.

A lengthy break followed as ground staff attempted to brush, mop and roll water from the deluge off the pitch and, after a second inspection, the surface was deemed playable.

However, the furious Georgians did not emerge for the 21:15 BST restart, leading to the referee doing a further check before the game finally resumed at 21:35 with Scotland 1-0 up.

Moments before Scotland's opener, manager Steve Clarke and Georgia counterpart Willy Sagnol could be seen signalling to the fourth official that the game should be halted.

And the Georgians maintained those protests throughout the delay before finally reappearing to complete the fixture and avoid a repeat of Scotland's 1996 visit to Tallinn, when they kicked off without their protesting Estonian hosts.
