There is fear Oklahoma City Thunder second-overall draft pick Chet Holmgren will miss the 2022-23 season with a Lisfranc injury to his right foot.

Oklahoma City Thunder 7-footer Chet Holmgren will miss the 2022-2023 season with a Lisfranc injury to his right foot. Holmgren, the No. 2 pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, suffered the injury in a Pro-Am game in Seattle on Saturday.

Holmgren is believed to have sustained the injury at a Jamal Crawford CrawsOver Pro-Am game that had to be stopped due to unsafe court conditions, The Athletic's Shams Charania reports. The court was reportedly too slippery and players could not keep their grip due to condensation on the hardwood floors.

A Lisfranc injury is one that affects the bones or ligaments in the middle part of your foot, the tarsometatarsal joint.

“Certainly, we are disappointed for Chet, especially given the excitement he had about getting on the floor with his teammates this season," Thunder vice president and general manager Sam Presti wrote in a statement. "We know Chet has a long career ahead of him within our organization and the Oklahoma City community.“

Holmgren was selected with the No. 2 pick in the 2022 NBA Draft by the Thunder, proceeding No. 1 pick Paolo Banchero and preceding No. 3 selection Jabari Smith.

The seven-footer was a highly-touted prospect coming out of high school, ranked No. 1 in the class of 2021 by ESPN.

Holmgren, 20, played one season of college basketball at Gonzaga, earning second-team All-American and first-team All-WCC honours while winning the WCC Defensive Player of the Year award in his freshman campaign.

Holmgren averaged 14.1 points, 9.9 rebounds and 3.7 blocks in 32 appearances for Gonzaga during the 2021-22 season.
